With the recent release of Apple Watch Ultra, it may be bit of confusing to choose between the Ultra and the Series 8. We are writing this article regarding of that matter, for you to carefully chose between what to buy and why.
The Design
The Apple Watch Ultra has a quite noticeable upgrade in the design. Its actually larger in size and much heavier. There is a new button called “The Action Button” on the side of the Ultra which wasn’t featured in the Series 8. Actually this button is both convenient and annoying at the same time. In rare cases, it tends to press itself when you rotate your hand from the wrist and also it is kind of hard to press the action button without touching the side button (left) of the watch. It takes good practice to do this without actually pressing the button on the left. Since the Ultra watch is heavier and bulkier than the Series 8, you need to pick the perfect fitting watch strap to use with. All the straps of Series 8 is interchangeable with the Ultra, which means there is no size difference between the straps. As I said before, if the Ultra watch doesn’t fit to your wrist, you will feel the weight with your movements.
The next best thing is the build quality of the Ultra watch. Unlike the Series 8 (which is probably Aluminum) the Apple Watch Ultra frame is made from (natural) Titanium. So there are no worries about accidental impacts, falls and drops. The Series 8 will definitely take some amount of damage if you accidentally bash it into a door or a table, but this watch Ultra will not simply care. In the build quality, surely Ultra is superior.
Microphone and Speakers
The quality of the microphone doesn’t have a much impact on the buyer’s preference but yet if we take the input voice quality into consideration, the Ultra leads by a hair on normal atmosphere. If the watch is covered by something, just in case, then both would sound the same. There should have been a huge difference because the watch Ultra has a three-mic array which Series 8 doesn’t have, but the difference isn’t that much noticeable.
In the sound output, Series 8 vs Ultra means single speaker vs dual. Obviously, the Ultra has louder and fuller sound because of those two speakers.
Screen
The Apple Watch Ultra screen is way brighter than the Series 8 screen. Even in direct sunlight you can see it without any issues. The Ultra literally has as twice as Series 8 brightness (2000nits vs 1000nits). Even the screen resolution is much higher in the Apple Watch Ultra (because it has a bigger screen). Unlike the curved edges in Series 8’s screen, the Ultra watch has a flat screen, and it is protected by the abovesaid Titanium frame (raised). It is even easier to swipe up and down with the flat screen than the curved one.
Battery
In reality, a Series 8 will last about one and a half days, while the watch Ultra amazingly lasts more than two days in a single charge. The battery life depends on how you use it and how often you use it. The battery of the Ultra is x1.5 bigger in capacity than the battery in Series 8. Since it has a bigger battery, the Ultra also takes more time to be fully charged. With a fast charger it may take around 1 hour and 30 minutes while the Series 8 only takes an hour.
The only thing keeps you away from going for the Apple Watch Ultra over the Series 8 is the price tag. The huge price difference between these two items will definitely demotivate anyone who’s choosing between the two. I have to say if you don’t mind the price gap, then it is clear that Ultra is the better option because it overtakes the Series 8 in almost every aspect. Its bigger, brighter, lasts long and even tougher. But if you are not willing to spend the big bucks, then Series 8 is not a problem at all. It is also a leading item in worldwide smartwatch market. Now you have all the information to choose between the two.
